Design Work to Begin on New County Fire Station

Volusia County Fire Rescue has 20 full-service fire stations staffed around-the-clock.

In March 2018, the county’s public protection department presented a fire rescue service level update to the County Council. During the update, the council approved the relocation of the Rima Ridge Fire Station, Station 18, to a site with better access to S.R. 40 to improve response times.

According to a release, on Tuesday, the County Council took the next step in relocating the Rima Ridge station.

While the exact location hasn’t been decided yet, the new fire station – which will be re-designated Station 47 – will serve the north-central area of the county.

On Tuesday, the council awarded a $147,500 contract to Schenkel & Shultz, Inc. of Orlando to design the new fire station.

Under the contract, in addition to preparing a schematic design, the architectural firm also will evaluate four potential sites and recommend the best location for the new station.

The design will serve as a prototype, as the county plans to use it for at least one other future fire station.
