Faith Lutheran Church

On September 9,1982, twenty-one people gathered at the home of Gary and Carol Schad to discuss the possibility of forming a new Lutheran congregation in Ormond Beach.  Dr. John McCollister was invited to conduct services on a temporary basis.  On November 28, 1982, the first service of worship was held at Tomoka Elementary School in Ormond Beach, with 46 persons attending.

On December 5, 1982, the first meeting of the congregation took place with the election of temporary officers.  Those attending the meeting voted to incorporate and selected the name of the church.  The congregation adopted the Articles of Incorporation and a working constitution and on May 19, 1984, Faith Lutheran Church was accepted into membership of the Southeastern District of the American Lutheran Church.

The Rev. Ronald C. Starenko of Houston, Texas was called as the first full-time pastor of the congregation and was installed on June 17, 1984.  On November 18, 1984 ground-breaking took place for a sanctuary at the corner of State Road 40 and Tymber Creek Road.  The new building was dedicated on April 28, 1985.

The American Lutheran Church merged with 2 other Lutheran church bodies in 1988 to form the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and Faith became a part of the new Church.  On November 6, 1988, Rev. John Anderson was installed as the second pastor.  On September 8, 1991 a new addition to be known as the “Friendship Room” was dedicated.  On January 14, 2001, The Rev. Steven C. Anderson was installed as the third pastor.

In April of 2001, the congregation adopted “A Vision for Ministry” which included approval to conduct a three year Capital Appeal to provide for a building expansion program to build a new sanctuary but in April of 2003, the congregation redirect the Building Committee and the Church Council to build a fellowship hall instead of a new sanctuary.  On April 3, 2005 the new parish hall and the renovations to the existing sanctuary were dedicated.

The Reverend Dr. Marcia Cox was installed as the fourth pastor on April 1, 2007.  On June 7, 2009, Congregational approval was given for a Building Restoration Project and for the sale of a parcel of property to Volusia County for a road-widening project on Tymber Creek Road.  Pastor Cox retired on December 31, 2017.  The congregation is now served by Pastor Pamela O’Donnell.
