Jane Weimer of the Port Orange Regional Library has received the Distinguished Career Award from the Northeast Florida Library Information Network.

According to a release, Weimer has displayed achievement and leadership throughout her career in the library field. Being a part of the Volusia County Public Library System for 35 years, and oversees public libraries in New Smyrna, Edgewater, and Oak Hill.

“Jane’s devotion to the field of librarianship is evident,” Branch Manager Cyndy Moore said. “She is a strong leader, weathering many storms as libraries have evolved over the decades. She is a careful thinker, a strategic planner, and an effective decision maker.”

Weimer made her libraries critical resources for children and adults with old-fashioned storytimes, summer reading programs, book clubs, plays, concerts, and craft sessions. She made it her mission to ensure that the libraries were high-tech hubs where residents can learn 21st-century skills, use public access computers, and conduct online research.

Weimer gets to know her “regulars” and their interests, greeting them with a friendly smile and offering her assistance.

“Jane has a warm demeanor and is loved by her community, as evidenced by the many visits she receives from patrons,” Moore said. “She is an active listener and gives her full attention when engaged with others in conversation.”
