The City of Ormond Beach Department of Leisure Services is proud to announce that two children will have the chance to attend one session of the 2023 Enviro Camp at the Environmental Discovery Center, free of cost, through a scholarship offered by the Joyce Ebbets Children’s Environmental Education Scholarship Fund. Recipients of the scholarship will be selected through a competitive essay contest.

The scholarship is a tribute to the late Joyce Ebbets, a City Commissioner and Ambassador of the City of Ormond Beach and the Department of Leisure Services. Joyce was known for her love for the environment, and this scholarship fund helps educate area children about the wonders of nature and how to respect and protect it.

Ormond Beach students between the ages of seven and ten years old, as of April 1, 2023, are eligible to participate in the contest. Essays must be students’ original work, with limited guidance from others. Plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification. There is a minimum of 300 words, with a 500-word maximum, and structured into three parts: Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.

Entries must be submitted via email or mail by 11:59 PM EST on Monday, March 20, 2023. The essays will be judged by an independent group of volunteers no later than March 30, 2023, and winners will be notified immediately. The City of Ormond Beach reserves the right to use, reproduce, transmit, post, distribute, or display the submissions.
