The Ormond Beach Police Department has arrested an Ormond Beach man following the investigation of a fire that broke out in Sanchez Park last week. The fire destroyed part of a fence and some playground equipment dedicated to Cameron Brenneman.

According to a release, Zachery Shane Edwards, 51, reported his bicycle stolen on December 15. Before Edwards filed the report, Police found the bike near the playground the morning of the vandalism. Using video evidence from the vicinity of Sanchez Park, detectives were able to identify Edwards as a suspect.

On Wednesday, December 22, detectives spoke with Edwards at the Ormond Beach Police Station when he arrived to claim the bike. At that time, Edwards confessed to vandalizing, by fire, the Sanchez Park playground.

Edwards is charged with criminal mischief, filing a false police report, and violation of pre-trial release. He is currently in custody at the Volusia County Branch Jail, held with no bond.
