The City of Ormond Beach is urging residents, who haven’t already, to begin prepping for Hurricane Season by picking up their sandbags early this year.

According to a release from the city, a self-serve sand pile and fillable sandbags will be available all month, beginning Saturday, August 1, at the Nova Community Center on Nova Rd in Ormond Beach.

Self- Service hours will be Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Assist3ed Service Hours will be Wednesday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ormond Beach residents that would like assistance filling and loading sandbags into their vehicles, can visit Nova Recreation Center during these hours. One staff person will be onsite to assist, additional staff will be scheduled based on need.

Ormond Beach Residents can receive up to 10 complimentary fillable bags from the Nova Recreation Center office during the hours listed above. ID is required. Residents will need to bring a shovel and fill/load the bags into their vehicles.

Residents with special needs can request delivery of sandbags to their residence if they are unable to fill sandbags, or unload sandbags from their vehicle. Residents may request this service through an online form on the City’s website at https://www.ormondbeach.org/sandbags bor by contacting the Public Works Department directly. Forms can also be downloaded and then printed and turned into the Public Works Department.

Additional hours, locations, and staff will be scheduled in the event a hurricane or severe storm is anticipated to impact the Ormond Beach area. The Casements and Ormond Beach Sports Complex will be utilized, and hours of operation and the number of staff members will be increased.

In addition to sandbag supplies, your hurricane kits should still contain the same recommended items, but instead of stocking them for three to five days, residents should stock them for five to seven days. Make sure to also have hand sanitizer in your kit along with facemasks for you and your family this year. For a list of recommended items, go to www.ready.gov/build-a-kit.

Information on the City’s sandbag distribution program will be posted on the City’s website at https://www.ormondbeach.org/sandbaginfo and distributed via press release and social media postings.
