The much-anticipated registration for the upcoming fall semester's Drivers Education program will begin on Monday, August 21, 2023, at 8 p.m., and aspiring drivers in Volusia County are encouraged to seize this opportunity, as any student residing within the county can enroll in the program. The program is free, and students can earn a paperless waiver of the road test for an operator’s license.

The after-school program will begin on August 28 and runs through December 11 from 3:45 until 6:15 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays at the following two high schools:

  • Mainland High, 1255 West International Speedway Boulevard, Daytona Beach
  • DeLand High, 800 N. Hill Avenue, DeLand

Participants should stay updated on potential adjustments due to teaching conflicts and other scheduling considerations. Check the website for specific class days and times. Students need to wear closed-toe shoes for the class. There will be no classes during the week of November 20-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Saturday program will begin on September 9 and run through November 4 from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the following high schools:

  • Pine Ridge High, 925 Howland Boulevard, Deltona
  • New Smyrna Beach High, 1015 10th Street, New Smyrna Beach
  • Seabreeze High, 2700 N. Oleander Avenue, Daytona Beach

Students will need to bring lunch each day and wear closed-toe shoes.

The eligibility criteria for program enrollment are as follows:

  •  All students currently enrolled in a Volusia County public school (to earn elective credit), school of choice, private school, or in the home-school program and eligible to drive will be allowed to enroll in a driver education program as seats are available.
  • Must be 15 years or older on or before the first day of the session.
  • Must have completed one full year of high school on or before the first day of the session.
  • Must have and present a learner’s license when registering and on the first day of the session.
  • Must not have already received credit for driver’s education.

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, and if the class meets capacity, the program will start a waitlist for the remaining registrants. Funding for this program is made available through the Dori Slosberg Driver Education Trust Fund.

The registration process will be accessible on the Volusia County Schools Drivers Education website at www.k12.vcsedu.org/drivers-education. Students should contact their home high school for more information about the Driver's Education program.
