The Ormond Beach Police Department will be participating in the DEA National Prescription Take-Back Day, on Saturday, October 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event will take place in the lobby of the Ormond Beach Police Department.

This initiative will provide an opportunity for the public to voluntarily surrender expired unwanted, or unused pharmaceutically controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for proper destruction.

OBPD is a certified collection site for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) 19th Annual National Drug Take-Back Day.

The event was created to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescriptions and over the counter medications. Liquids or needles (sharps) cannot be accepted. Only pills or patches are acceptable for disposal.

The service is free and anonymous; with no questions asked. For more information on prescription drug abuse, go to www.DEA.gov.
