The Florida Department of Transportation invites residents to attend a public meeting regarding project plans on State Road A1A at 5:30 p.m., on Wednesday, January 12.

The purpose behind the meeting is to improve traffic operations and enhance pedestrian safety on State Road A1A from Milsap Road to Granada Boulevard in Ormond Beach. The Department of Transportation wants to present updated information that they revised and receive community feedback.

According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the project plans to construct mid-block crossings in eight locations: Milsap Road, Benjamin Drive, River Beach Drive, Rockefeller Drive, Arlington Way, Ormond Parkway, Osceola Avenue, and Bosarvey Drive. All midblock crossings, except for Rockefeller Drive, which will be equipped with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs), Audible Pedestrian Signals (APS), overhead lighting, and in-road lighting. Rockefeller Drive will be equipped with a Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB).

The project also plans to construct raised islands in three short segments (85 to 110 feet long) to encourage slower driving speeds and help enhance safety for pedestrians crossing S.R. A1A. Locations for the raised islands are north of Wren Road, north of Northshore Drive, and north of Byron Ellis Drive.

The Transportation Department is sending notices to several residents and business owners nearby to allow everyone to speak. Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, or family status. Persons wishing to express their concerns relative to FDOT compliance with Title VI may contact Coordinator Jennifer Smith at Jennifer.Smith2@dot.state.fl.us.

Because of the pandemic, the Department of Transportation offers multiple ways for residents to participate in the meeting.

Those options include:

  • Phone Option (Listen Only) - Participants may join the assembly in listen-only mode by dialing 1-866-901-6455 and entering the passcode 958-419-867 when prompted
  • Virtual Option - Interested individuals may join the Virtual Public Meeting from a computer, tablet, or mobile device. It is a free live presentation or webinar over the internet. Advance registration is required by visiting https://bit.ly/3DawmQb. Afterward, participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online. Please note, Internet Explorer will not work. Another browser is needed. If you attend online, allow adequate time to log in to view the presentation in its entirety.
  • In-Person Open House Option - Participants may attend in person by going to The Casements, off Riverside Drive in Ormond Beach. Interested persons may visit anytime between 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You may view a looping presentation and project displays, speak with project team members, and submit comments or questions. If attending in person, remember to follow all safety and sanitation guidelines. If you feel unwell, consider attending the meeting virtually or by phone.
