The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office took to social media Monday, thanking an Ormond Beach family who assisted the Sheriff’s Office with apprehending a jet ski thief.

According to a Facebook post, Volusia County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Ormond Beach Police Department on an in-progress call of a jet ski theft around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2022. Ronald Williams, 48, failed to get the jet ski started and floated off on the watercraft into the Intracoastal Waterway.

Nearby, a family heading out onto the water for the afternoon allowed deputies to commandeer their boat to apprehend the suspect. Williams, who was trying to start the watercraft and admitted that he could not swim when deputies arrived on the scene, was arrested without incident.

Deputies were able to return the jet ski to its owner.
