Just after 8 p.m. Monday, August 22, 2022, the Ormond Beach Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Nova Road and Old Kings Road. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered a two-vehicle crash involving a white Ford pick-up truck and a black Ford SUV.

According to a release, the initial investigation shows that the truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Nova Road and collided head-on with the black SUV, which was traveling northbound from the intersection of Old Kings Road.

Geralynn Purvis, 42, of Ormond Beach, and the driver of the SUV did not survive her injuries, while her passenger was listed as a trauma alert and transported to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The wrong-way driver sustained a head injury but refused transport to the hospital. Next of kin has been notified of Ms. Purvis’ death.

The police department is actively investigating impairment as a possible cause of the accident. If anyone has any information about the crash, contact Officer Rick Taylor, rick.taylor@ormondbeach.org, and reference case number 20800314.
